ROLE OVERVIEW The Configuration Officer is responsible for maintaining configuration integrity across programmes and projects by managing engineering changes, product documentation, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and configuration baselines. The successful candidate will ensure full compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and regulatory obligations — from design and industrialisation through to manufacture, delivery, and in-service support.
Job description

  • Tailor and negotiate Configuration Management (CM) activities per programme/project and communicate the agreed approach across all functions
  • Generate and maintain the Configuration Management Plan as the programme/project CM roadmap
  • Compile and maintain CM planning schedules, including planned baselines, design reviews, formal audits, and release milestones

Configuration Identification

  • Identify configuration items, documents, software items, technical data packs, product structures, and baseline content
  • Establish and maintain document plans, data pack structures, master record indexes, and release schedules

Design Review Support

Configuration Control

  • Place drawings, electronic files, product structures, and controlled data under formal control in line with procedures and schedules
  • Manage the end-to-end change control process, including logging, routing, impact assessment, decision tracking, implementation status, and closure
  • Manage concession and deviation processes and maintain associated records
  • Prevent unauthorised updates to released baselines and data

Configuration Control Board (CCB) Administration

  • Initiate and administer CCB activities — preparing agendas, arranging meetings, verifying completeness of change packages, and serving as CCB Secretary
  • Record CCB decisions, approvals, rejections, conditions, and implementation instructions
  • Ensure all resulting status changes are accurately reflected in CM records and released data

Status Accounting

  • Generate and maintain status reports covering change requests, concessions, deviations, documentation, baselines, and CCB actions
  • Provide timely, accurate configuration status accounting to management, programme teams, quality, procurement, and production stakeholders

Build History and Records Management

  • Manage build history records and configuration evidence for products/programmes
  • Ensure all records, documentation, and audit evidence are stored, protected, retrievable, and retained for the required product/programme lifetime

Supplier Support

  • Support procurement and quality in directing suppliers to implement applicable configuration control procedures
  • Conduct or support configuration system audits at supplier facilities as required

Configuration Audits

  • Conduct verification audits and support configuration audits, baseline checks, and document/data pack reviews
  • Identify CM discrepancies, report findings, and track corrective actions through to closure

Training and Continuous Improvement

  • Provide CM training and guidance to programme and project teams
  • Train configuration practitioners in revision control, baseline discipline, change control, and records integrity
  • Provide user feedback and improvement inputs to the Manager: Configuration

Minimum requirements
